Virtual Reality and Gaming Specialist

ACE is a collaboration between Dairymaster, McHale Engineering, Abbey Machinery, Kerry County Council and IT Tralee to develop an AgriTech Centre of Excellence (ACE) that will be based in IT Tralee. ACE will support an exponential change in the AgriTech industry. The centre will identify, research, share and implement best practice in innovation, processes and systems, people skills, company capability and internationalisation to deliver sustainable market growth.

The project is a game changer in the AgriTech sector and offers a new and exciting approach to sectoral learning and development, through e-learning and virtual reality. ACE is the first of its kind in Ireland & indeed Europe and is therefore, in its very nature, innovative. ACE will enhance the capabilities of Ireland’s AgriTech businesses/companies and expand their reach and global ambition, thereby positioning Ireland at the forefront of the international AgriTech industry.


ACE is now recruiting for a Virtual Reality (VR) and Gaming Specialist to coordinate, create and develop VR and augmented reality (AR) content to facilitate interactive learning experiences on various target platforms. The successful candidate will report to the ACE centre manager.  ACE is co-funded by Enterprise Ireland under the regional development fund 2017 and is a not for profit Public Private Partnership (PPP) led by the collaborating organisations. The successful candidate will be employed by ACE.

Minimum qualifications 

The successful candidate must have as a minimum a degree (level 8 in the National Framework of qualifications) or equivalent level in relevant discipline(s) commensurate with this role (i.e. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline)

Desirable Skills and Experience 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with VR/ AR
  • Computer aided design experience (AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT software)
  • Working knowledge of HMD (i.e. Oculus, HTCVive, Hololens)
  • Experience developing or modifying game engines (Unreal, Unity etc)
  • Experience with at least one GPU- backed graphics library (i.e. Vulkan, Open GL, Direct3D, Mantle, Metal)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Demonstrated experience and capability of working in close co-operation with stakeholders

Additional skills considered a plus:

  • AR: Object recognition, acquisition, tracking, rendering
  • AR: integrating with existing AR platforms like Vuforia, Wikitude, Metaio
  • Knowledge of WebGL, HTML5 and JavaScript
  • Experience integrating HTML within Unity (ie Coherent UI, Colibri)
  • Machine learning / Computer Vision

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate VR/ AR activities for ACE
  • Work with Unity, C# and 3D applications to develop content
  • Production/ development of VR/ AR experiences viewable on mobile devices and AR/ VR headsets
  • Create rapid prototypes of systems in Unity
  • End to end development of new features from concept to deployment in a continuous integrated (CI) environment
  • Writing clean, well-documented testable code
  • Ensure mobile development & deployment (IOS, Android, Web) of VR/ AR content
  • Facilitate and present at stakeholder meetings
  • Work with the ACE Centre Manager to communicate and implement the ACE strategic plan
  • Work with the ACE Centre Manager on tracking, monitoring, and reporting on project progress
  • Enhance the strategic performance of ACE with regard tolearning and development activities

Duration of Contract: 3 Years

Salary: An attractive salary package is available based on relevant experience
