STEM in Kerry

The STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) sector in Kerry is booming. From established multinationals to innovative start-ups, excitement is growing around STEM’s potential to drive employment and prosperity for the region.

Building for the Future

“…65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely new job types that don’t yet exist.”

World Economic Forum Report: The Future of Jobs

Tell Them About It

A survey of 15-17year-old school-going children revealed that each student could name up to 5 local STEM-related enterprises – and most of these were in their local town or community. With over 50 STEM members in KerrySciTech alone, we need to build awareness.

Young people need role models – people they can relate to and be inspired by when choosing their own careers.

Could that inspiration come from you?

Investing in the Future

We need to nurture our talent and ensure that each new generation is equipped to provide the necessary skills to sustain and develop STEM in Kerry.

Schools are playing their part, with Initiatives to bring science and maths skills to young students county-wide through exciting programmes and events. Programmes such as Futurewize STE(A)M introduce students to STEM subjects in a fun, interactive way, inspiring them with positive industry role models and outreach partners who can tell them what it is really like to work in STEM.

Outreach

Many of our young people would love the opportunity to take up rewarding careers in forward-thinking companies close to home. To ensure that they can, we at KerrySciTech are encouraging our members to get involved in outreach efforts to engage young people, their parents and career guidance supports in STEM and develop their talents so they can make a valuable contribution to the STEM sector and enjoy fulfilling careers in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
